September 2006
Where has this year gone! Already September, as I write this, and the fall season is almost upon us. That should give us a little bit of anticipation, as hopefully it will mean more and better opportunities for viewing!
Speaking of viewing opportunities, the annual Fall Star Party at Chiefland is coming up in November, the 15th to the 22nd. Those dates are Wednesday through the following Wednesday, so most folks will attend the weekend portion. If you plan on attending, I hope you got your registrations in early. Also, it is not too early to start planning for our Astrofest event next March. This event will be held at the Kissimmee Prairie Preserve, just north of Okeechobee, FL. This site holds a lot of promise to be a very dark sky location with no light pollution at all. However, because of the remoteness of the location, those planning on attending need to start thinking now about what to take and what extra preparations you need to look into to ensure you will have a great time.
We have three more meetings this year. In October, at the Orlando Science Center, Dr. Michelle Montgomery will bring us up to date on some exciting events she and other UCF students are working on. Then, in November, at the Seminole Community College, Dr Campines will bring us up to date with his research activities. Then to finish the year out in style, we will again gather at the Robinson Observatory to have a little Holiday Merriment! This is always such a fun time for everyone, so please make plans to attend.
Finally, I wish to thank all CFAS members who either renewed or joined this year. Thanks again for joining and re-joining. Please let us know how we may be of help to you in your pursuit of our great hobby and passion, Amateur Astronomy.
