Materials:

1 roll of aluminum flashing 10’ X 10” $5.49 at Lowe’s
(May be either plain aluminum or brown/white-sided)
5” hose clamps (1 per shield) $1.43 each at Lowe’s
Electrical or duct tape
Tin snips
Tape measure/straight edge
Pencil

Procedure:

  1. Measure and cut 10” X 15” sections of flashing.
  2. Cut each section in half lengthwise to make one 5” X 15” piece for each shield.
  3. Trim each piece in curve with 2.5” on each end and 5” in middle.
  4. Cut 1” X 15” lengths of tape for each shield.
  5. Stick tape to inside straightedge of flashing.
  6. Fold shield with taped edge around outside edge of lamp and hold in place with small piece of tape.
  7. Secure with hose clamp and install in lumenaire.

Important Safety Tips:
Use caution when cutting and handling aluminum flashing as edges are sharp and you don’t want to cut yourself.

Observe ladder safety rules. It is better to remove lamps and install shields on the ground.

Hint: when removing lamp, mark bottom position with tape to assure proper positioning of shield
