General Observing Guidelines
OBSERVING GUIDELINES AT OUR DARK SKY SITES
- Viewing courtesy is expected from all members. No loud music or noisy or unruly behavior please. Children must be closely supervised by an adult.
- If possible arrive at the dark sky site before sunset. This will allow you to set up during daylight with minimum disruption of others.
- Use red flash lights at all times.
- If you arrive after dark, use only parking lights when approaching the viewing area.
- Ensure your cars interior lights will not go on when the vehicles doors are opened. Find the fuse before arriving. This will avoid the white light disruption if you arrive after dark or when you leave.
- It is always good to park so that you pull forward when leaving. This will prevent your back up lights from blinding the remaining viewers.
- If your car has running lights that cannot be turned off, ensure you park well clear and heading away from the viewing area.
- Unless there is an emergency, no white lights are allowed in the viewing areas. If white light is necessary warn others ahead of time, by shouting "White light".
- Observing equipment is expensive. Most members are happy to share views with you on their equipment, but please check with the owner first before touching any equipment.
- Usually CFAS supplies power cords at all site. Check with the owner if you wish to tie into some ones private power cord.
- All that is expected is common courtesy towards each other so that all can enjoy viewing the heavens with minimum disruption.
