Harmony Dark Sky Festival 2008
Mark Your Calendars: April 5th
HARMONY INSTITUTE WILL PRESENT THE
5th ANNUAL DARK SKY FESTIVAL AT HARMONY
Plans are underway for the 5th Annual Dark Sky Festival at Harmony. This years festival is scheduled for Saturday, April 5, 2008 and will kick off at 7pm in Harmony's Town Square.
As with the past Dark Sky Festivals, patrons will be able to enjoy viewing the night skies while listening to educational speakers, enjoying music and food, stopping by any of the specialty booths, playing in the Kids Zone and so much more, said Greg Golgowski, Harmonys full-time Conservation Director.
The Dark Sky Festival is intended to celebrate and promote the benefits of a nighttime sky free from the effects of excessive artificial lighting. Harmony's Town Square is listed Class 4 on the Bortle Scale of Light Pollution.
In addition to introducing environmentally intelligent lighting and lifestyle practices, the event also encourages the development of scientific interest in Florida youth.
This year will mark the debut of another star-driven event called Harmonys Got Talent. Attendees will have the opportunity to show off their talents, whatever that may be. From jugglers to singers and beyond, be sure to read future issues of St. Cloud in the News to find out how you can be a part of this talent competition and win some great prizes.
The 5th Annual Dark Festival at Harmony will be hosted by the Central Florida Astronomical Society and the International Dark Sky Association.
The Festival is free and open to the general public. Over 2,500 people are expected to attend the Festival this year.
