General Information

The Central Florida Astronomical Society, Inc. (CFAS) currently operates in Orlando (at the Seminole Community College Planetarium). CFAS Activities include monthly meetings featuring guest speakers, monthly observing sessions at several sites across Central Florida, publication of a web information site (Continuously Updated), and public observing sessions when events of significant interest occur. In addition, CFAS holds an annual cookout / star party (CFAS Astrofest) that is usually very well attended by amateurs throughout Florida. We believe that CFAS is one of the finest astronomical organizations in the country.

General Meetings are open to the public and take place the second Wednesday of every month at 7:00 PM at the Seminole Community College Planetarium or the Orlando Science Center. The general meeting includes reports from the officers and committees, followed by a brief period of announcements. We then present our speaker or program lasting about an hour.

Board meetings are held the Thursday following the third Wednesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. at Dan's Restaurant in Longwood.

CFAS holds observing sessions for members at the Ocala Observing Site. Weather permitting, observing sessions are held on the Saturday night closest to the new moon.

Two membership packages are available to the general public to join CFAS:

Regular Membership
The Regular membership includes voting privileges, use of the CFAS library, loaner telescopes, and observing sites. Cost is $35.00.

Patron Membership
The Patron membership has all the features of the Regular membership, along with special privileges as determined by the Board, and free food at our annual Astrofest! Cost is $50.00.
