Programs Planned for 2010 General Meetings
January - Guest Speaker Dr. William Barott, Engineer, Radio Astronomer and team member on the Allen Telescope Array will talk about Radio Astronomy, interferometry, the new Allen Telescope Array at the Hat Creek Radio Observatory in California, a “Beamforming” crash course, including SETI science, single-pixel astronomy, why we do it, evolving technology, and the future.
February - Guest Speaker Gil Gagne will explain the various concepts that go into a "goto" telescope, and will give a PowerPoint presentation on the design and construction of his own hand-made 12" goto telescope. He built his telescope from the ground up, including grinding and figuring the mirror and adding stepper motors, encoders, microprocessor, and programming. Gil is very interested in motivating others to get into the interesting field of Amateur Telescope Making.
March - 3D Sun and Sun-Earth Connection Missions
April - UCF visiting Professor Dr. James Cooney will do a presentation on the Study of Cosmic Microwave Background.
May - Jason Higley presents Astro-imaging with the Family Camera - afocal astronomical imaging with common point-n-shoot digital cameras, including solar system/planet imaging and processing techniques commonly used by others in dedicated astro-cameras. Jason will also answer any questions you may have. Here's a gallery of some of his images made exclusively with point-n-shoot cameras (and scopes). Afterward on the planetarium dome, what's up in the night sky for the month's of May and June.
June - University of Central Florida's Professor Dan Britt - The History of Earth's Climate ***MEETING DATE CHANGED TO JUNE 16th***
July - Seminole State College Planetarium's Director Derek Demeter presents The Extraterrestrial Files
August - Space Camp. Tony Urzi, our President, will do a presentation on his visit to NASA Space Camp for Educators in Hunstville, Alabama.
September - "Recent Developments in Our Understanding of Water in the Solar System." by Dr. Yan Fernández, Assistant Professor from the University of Central Florida's Physics Dept., (whose research specialization is in asteroids and comets, and who has published over 50 papers in such illustrious peer-reviewed journals such as Science, The Astrophysical Journal and Icarus) will be doing a presentation.
October - Richard Wright will talk about the new Software Bisque Planetarium Software The SkyX Pro.
